Key Takeaways

  • Tuna brand Chicken of the Sea has a new flavor that is sure to be a hit with spicy food lovers.
  • The 2.5-ounce seasoned tuna packets are available now for a limited time for brave tasters.

When it comes to convenience, there’s nothing quite like canned tuna. The budget-friendly protein has a lengthy shelf life, making it the ideal pantry staple. Plus, ready-to-eat pouches make it easy to serve up at a moment’s notice. Beyond convenience, tuna is extremely versatile. Whether you want a warm, cheesy casserole, diner-style melt, or crave a crisp lettuce wrap, tuna fits the bill.

In 1930, Chicken of the Sea, first known as Van Camp Seafood, debuted its Chicken of the Sea-branded products in stores. According to the website, the name “Chicken of the Sea” started as a joke between fishermen, who referred to white albacore tuna as such due to its light color and mild taste. Decades later, it has expanded to include products featuring salmon, shrimp, oysters, and more. But it doesn’t stray away from the star of its original lineup: tuna.

Chicken of the Sea now has a range of seasoned tuna products, including Lemon Garlic, Old Bay, and Dill flavors, making it easy for fans to dig right in without ever opening the spice cabinet.

Now, the brand is turning up the heat with its newest product–but you’ll have to act fast, because it’s only available for a limited time.

Chicken of the Sea Launches Ghost Pepper Seasoned Tuna

Chicken of the Sea Wild Caught Light Tuna Packet with Ghost Pepper is now heading to stores, giving fans a whole new way to enjoy one of the spiciest chilies in the world. For those unfamiliar, ghost peppers land near the top of the Scoville scale, a guide used to measure the heat level of peppers and other spicy foods. Ghost peppers share the top of the scale with Carolina Reapers and Pepper X, which are considered the hottest in the world. For comparison, bell peppers fall at the bottom, due to their extremely mild taste.

Each 2.5-ounce packet of ghost pepper seasoned tuna contains 15 grams of protein, making it a filling meal any time of the day. Fans can eat it right out of the package or alongside tortilla chips, however, those sensitive to spicy food may find it better suited as part of a mixture. Adding a scoop of mayonnaise to make tuna salad, eating with rice, or transforming it into a tuna burger will tamp down the heat while letting the ghost pepper flavor shine.

The brand says the flavor is inspired by customers' increasing interest in spicy food. "At Chicken of the Sea, we keep a close eye on emerging trends and flavor conversations to ensure we're delivering exciting and relevant flavor options for consumers to enjoy," says Griffin Raasch, Director of Marketing, Chicken of the Sea. "With the growing popularity of spicy foods, we are excited to join the conversation and bring fans our hottest flavor yet, boldly seasoned with ghost pepper."

On social media, Chicken of the Sea posted a video announcing the flavor, and fans were instantly thrilled. “I need these in my life,” wrote one user. “I just ordered the last 8 packages from Amazon,” commented another person on a separate post.

Chicken of the Sea Wild Caught Light Tuna Packet with Ghost Pepper is recommended for those 18 and older. If you have a sensitivity to spice, the brand suggests you check with a doctor before consuming. This limited-time offering is only available on Amazon, so be sure to stock up before it disappears.
