My Dad’s Favorite Campbell’s Soup Broke the Internet—and Now It’s Back

I owe my dad significant credit when it comes to my interest in food. He spent a good chunk of his 20s working in restaurant kitchens, so by the time my sister and I came around, we were getting treated to some pretty great school lunches and gourmet dinners. But when it came to cooking for himself as a dad, his meals took an entirely different approach: comforting and convenient. He has staples, and he sticks to them.

Last year, my dad stumbled upon a hot, new grocery product that quickly became a part of his repertoire of pantry staples. And while it may have seemed like a gimmick at first, my dad confirmed it was the real deal. And now, after selling out, it’s back for a limited time.

Campbell's Is Bringing Back Its Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup

When it launched a year ago, Campbell’s Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup all but broke the internet. The first-of-its-kind soup had some asking how no one had thought of making this mashup before, while others wondered why anyone would bother making it at all. My dad was firmly in the former camp after finding it at a local grocery store and trying it.

Not only did he find it delicious, but he loved it so much that he went back to the store to stock up (read: hoard) several cans. He calls the comforting mashup "peak canned soup."

The condensed soup is made with three kinds of cheese to emulate the comforting combination of a creamy tomato soup and a rich grilled cheese sandwich. You just need a piece of buttery toast or crunchy croutons to complete the dish. According to Campbell’s, it’s “delicious when reconstituted with milk for cheesier taste, or with water for a more tomato-forward flavor.”

Now, after a one-time giveaway, then subsequently selling out in stores, Campbell’s Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup is back for a limited time. Just in time for National Grilled Cheese Day on April 12, the soup is returning to select grocery stores through April, or while supplies last.

I know my dad will be running to the store to replenish his soup stockpile, so you'll just have to beat him to the shelves if you want to try this one-of-a-kind product.
