Original recipe (1X) yields 12 servings

  • 2 (21 ounce) cans cherry pie filling

  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box chocolate cake mix

  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), cut into 16 slices

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Pour pie filling into a 9×13-inch baking dish.

    Cook’s Note

Stir 1/4 teaspoon almond extract into the pie filling for extra flavor if you like.

  • Spread cake mix evenly over the pie filling, taking care not to mix it into the fruit. Top evenly with butter slices.

  • Bake in the preheated oven until lightly golden brown and bubbly, about 45 minutes. Let stand at least 5 minutes before serving.
