Key Takeaways

  • Walmart's bakery serves up a surprisingly wide range of tasty desserts and treats on a budget.
  • It recently added a lineup of new items, like single-serving cakes and cupcakes, but fans are especially intrigued by four new cheesecakes.

Everyone knows big warehouse retailers like Costco and Sam’s Club are a gold mine for ready-to-eat foods. Whether you’re a devoted fan of Costco’s croissant loaf and muffins, or find yourself staking out the bakery section at Sam’s Club more weekends than you’d like to admit (we’ve all been there, don’t worry). But what if we told you there’s another big chain bakery that might be worth taking note of?

Walmart might be better known as the place for everyday low prices and a massive assortment of products that make it the perfect one-stop shop, but its bakery is turning out to be an unexpected hit. In fact, it just released a slew of baked goods that look so delicious, shoppers are already saying on social media, “Welp. On my way to throw my money at Walmart right now…BRB.”

So, what's at Walmart that has fans dropping their phones and racing to their nearest store? It's a creamy fan-favorite dessert in four surprising flavors.

Walmart Bakery's New Cheesecakes

Walmart’s new releases include an exciting array of sweets like a churro tres leches parfait and a piña colada-inspired cake, but the items that seem to be stopping shoppers in their tracks are four new cheesecakes: guava, hot honey, and a box that comes with one slice of mango cheesecake and one slice of pineapple cheesecake, both with a generous dusting of zingy Tajin.

It’s hard to ignore the bubblegum pink allure of guava, so it’s no surprise shoppers instantly feel drawn to Walmart’s guava cheesecake. Plus, sweet and fruity guava and cream cheese are a winning combination. Just think of the guava and cream cheese pastelitos and their variations found all over Florida, Cuba, and parts of Latin America. According to a five-star review of the new flavor on Walmart’s website, the cheesecake “tastes awesome. Real guava taste and so creamy.”

Expanding on its tropical theme, Walmart is also offering pineapple and mango cheesecakes that have a honey and brown sugar crust and a sprinkle of Tajin. Mango with Tajin is a popular summer snack, but how do the flavors hold up when paired with tangy and rich cream cheese?

When Walmart shopper @morganchomps tried a bite from both, she immediately asked, “How is this that good?” She continued, “I’m not gonna lie, I thought that the fruit was going to taste really fake, and that Tajin would be really weird on this. But honestly, the fruit flavor itself, the cheesecake—it’s all rather fresh and the Tajin makes sense.” Consider us very intrigued.

Hot honey, on the other hand, is a flavor we didn’t see coming. And admittedly, we’re curious. Is it true to the name of hot honey, an indulgent blend of sweet honey and hot chili? Does cream cheese soften the spice, or does the richness of it amplify the heat? It’s hard to tell, but other shoppers aren’t batting an eye about the combination. “Hot honey cheesecake?” one person commented on another post by @morganchomps. “I need to go look for that today, that sounds really good!”

The new flavors, save for the mango and pineapple, are sold as individual slices, so there's no excuse for not picking up a slice on your way home for a refreshing and sweet treat at the end of the day. We're not sure how long these will stay on shelves, so if you're even the tiniest bit intrigued, it's not a bad idea to mosey on over to the bakery section at Walmart today.
