We may be certified bread lovers—using it for everything from toast and sandwiches to bread puddings and homemade breadcrumbs—but that doesn’t mean we haven’t found a loaf that’s been in the pantry a little too long with a moldy patch creeping down the crust. Sometimes, no matter how much you love a grilled cheese or how diligent you are about freezing your leftover slices, bread just goes bad.
As hard as we try to keep our bread fresh for longer, the simple fact is that, sometimes, finishing an entire loaf of bread just isn’t in the cards. However, when it comes to shopping for bread loaves at the grocery store, you pretty much get a one-size-fits-all 20-ounce package.
So, whether you live alone, are buying groceries for a short period of time, or just don’t eat bread that often, your options are pretty slim. But, beloved brand Sara Lee is putting an end to that problem.
Sara Lee Releases New Half Loaf Bread
Sara Lee Bread is introducing its first-ever half loaves of bread. The new Half Loaf takes Sara Lee’s 20-ounce bread and its slightly smaller 16-ounce loaf, and shrinks it down to a 12-ounce size, perfect for smaller households or people looking to try new products without committing to a full loaf.
The new half loaves come in three varieties, including White, Honey Butter, and 9 Grain Bread.

Sara Lee’s White Half Loaf is the same fresh, soft, classic white bread you know from the brand, packed with Vitamins A, D, and E—just with fewer slices. The Honey Butter loaf is a flavor combo of its Butter Bread and Honey Wheat Bread for a savory, buttery, slightly sweet option. Lastly, the 9 Grain Bread is a heartier, whole-grain option.
Sara Lee’s smaller half loaves aren’t just more convenient in size, they're also a steal in terms of price. The new half loaves will be sold at a suggested price of $2.49.
Sara Lee’s White, Honey Butter, and 9 Grain half-loaf breads are now rolling out to national retailers, including Walmart, where they’ll join the brand’s permanent lineup of breads and bagels.
Now, the only question we have is: When are you going to offer the Artesano bread in smaller quantities, Sara Lee?
