Do you have a favorite Mountain Dew flavor? Are you loyal to the original lemon-lime citrus flavor, or do you like a more modern spin like the Blackberry Citrus variety that was released late last year? Maybe you can’t get enough of the flavor first introduced at Taco Bell—the vibrant blue Baja Blast—that fans love to turn “dirty” by adding coffee creamer.
Or perhaps, your favorite is a boozy Mountain Dew? Boozy?! We’re not talking about mixing Mountain Dew soda with tequila or gin, we’re talking about Hard Mountain Dew, the canned 5% ABV ready-to-drink beverage the brand introduced in 2022. Last year, Mountain Dew released a multi-pack of alcoholic Baja Blast flavors in Original, Pineapple, Mango, and Punch flavors.
The ready-to-drink low ABV drinks must be a hit because Mountain Dew is now releasing another of its most popular soda flavors reinvented as a Hard flavor, and it's landing in stores now.
The New Hard Mountain Dew Code Red
Mountain Dew
When Mountain Dew's Code Red launched in 2001, delivering a burst of cherry to the OG citrus variety, fans were instantly hooked. Nearly 25 years later, the flavor is still a favorite among many, which is why the brand decided to make it the latest addition to its Hard Mountain Dew lineup, which already includes Original, LiveWire, and Baja Blast flavors.
The brand announced Hard Mountain Dew’s arrival on Instagram, and one fan summed up their excitement with a single word, “yipee” to which Hard Mountain Dew replied, “yippee ki-yay!!!” Another person, who we assume is a Code Red enthusiast, said, “I feel seen.”
To commemorate the new Hard product launch, Mountain Dew has an initiative focused on redheaded people. “Code Red: Save the Redheads!” is honestly kind of a head scratcher. Mountain Dew is asking its fans to help redheads find love to prevent the current 2% of the population with red hair from “vanishing forever.” From March 27 through April 10, fans can apply for a chance to win a free subscription to any dating service “to find true love with a redheaded partner.” Of course, there’s plenty of Hard Mountain Dew Code Red to give away, too.
We suppose that if you are going to drink on a first date with someone you met online, a low ABV beverage is not a bad choice. We encourage you to read all the info on this initiative before giving your personal information, because the new Hard Code Red may have people saying “yipee” but the initiative has us saying, "huh?"
If you’re a traditional Code Red fan, we also encourage you, separate from saving the redheads, to give this new Hard flavor a try. You may end up saying “yipiie ki-yay” after the first sip.
