Over the past few decades, it seems like Steve Martin and Martin Short have done everything together. The longtime friends star in shows and movies together, from "Three Amigos!" to "Father of the Bride" and, of course, "Only Murders in the Building," they go on comedy tours together, and just constantly pop up wherever the other is—like when one of them is hosting "Saturday Night Live" or "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Last summer, Apple TV+ released a documentary series on Martin and, of course, Short was featured, too. So when Martin visited "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" during Short’s stint as a guest host, the actors discussed another thing they love to do together: eat.

Since the pair has spent many mornings at hotel breakfast, they’ve essentially become coinessiours in their favorite two-ingredient breakfast: poached eggs and toast.

"We always judge the hotel by their poached eggs," Martin said.

Apparently, though, poached eggs aren’t the only thing Short and Martin share a love for. On a recent episode of “Hot Ones” with Benny Blanco and his fiancé, Short and Martin’s “Only Murders in the Building” costar, Selena Gomez, shared that the three of them all eat the same thing every day.

Martin Short and Steve Martin's Favorite Sandwich

"Is there an old man tendency you’ve picked up second hand, spending so much time with Martin Short and Steve Martin?" "Hot Ones" host Sean Evans asked Gomez.

"I sit there and read the news with them every day," she said.

"Don’t they eat the same thing every day?" Blanco asked.

"They eat the same thing every day—and now I eat the same thing every day," Gomez replied.

We already know that Gomez eats a chicken salad sandwich with grapes practically every day, but we didn’t know that she learned it from Martin and Short. While the comedians also enjoy a sandwich every day, the ingredients are slightly different.

"It’s a tuna sandwich with Dijon mustard," Gomez says.

Because Martin and Short have never taken Stephen Colbert’s “Colbert Questionert,” which famously starts out with the question, “What’s the best sandwich,” we don’t know much more about their go-to lunch. It doesn’t seem like the tuna is as jam-packed as Matthew McConaughey’s viral tuna fish salad—which is filled with peas, apple, agave, and crispy jalapeño chips—but rather a simple three-ingredient meal of bread, tuna, and a slathering of Dijon.

There’s nothing like a classic tuna fish sandwich, whether enjoyed topped with Dijon mustard or as a tuna melt, like Drew Barrymore and Stanley Tucci prefer. However, Gomez says that if Martin and Short aren’t eating their tuna sandwich on set, it’s another kind of fish: sushi.

Either way, the three actors have their routine down pat on the Emmy Award-nominated "Only Murders in the Building" set. So, if you start seeing any photos of tuna and chicken salad sandwiches circulating on social media, then we know Gomez, Martin, and Short are back on set shooting season five.
