Does anyone else have an embarrassing amount of condiments in their fridge? As much as I’ve tried to reduce the amount, there are just so many great options that deserve a place on the shelf. Ketchup, mustard, and Duke’s mayo are staples, of course. However, there are many more like sweet chili sauce, Chick-fil-A sauce, and hot sauce that can make lackluster meals extra flavorful with little effort.
Trader Joe’s fans, you know the struggle well. The grocer always has an exciting lineup of condiments, like Pepper Jelly and Dill Pickle Mustard, to name a few. Given how quickly TJ’s drops new products, it’s likely that your shelves fill up before you’ve had the chance to work through the last specialty sauce you purchased.
And now, we recently noticed that Trader Joe’s has a new goes-with-everything product that one Instagrammer is already calling “the best sauce ever.”
Trader Joe’s Korean Style Yangnyeom Sauce
Trader Joe’s Korean Style Yangnyeom Sauce recently landed on shelves and has quickly become a hit with shoppers. The popular find features a mix of soy sauce, blackstrap molasses, and gochugaru chili flakes, which you may be familiar with due to their use in gochujang. Cane sugar, the second ingredient on the nutrition label, balances any bitterness from the blackstrap molasses to create a flavorful multi-use ingredient that works as a dipping sauce, glaze, or marinade. Additionally, red miso paste, ginger, and mirin are blended to create an umami-packed sauce that can elevate a wide range of meals.
In a recent Reddit thread, shoppers discussed the flavor and brainstormed ways to use the new item. “I just got a bottle and I like it a lot! I ate it with the kimbap and can’t wait to put it on salmon,” wrote one Redditor. “I tried it tonight. The taste was very similar to the Japanese BBQ sauce by Bachan’s. Even the bottles look alike,” added another.
One person asked if it was spicy, to which another responded with their opinion on the taste. “I thought it was a mild spicy, very light notes of it. But the sweet tangy profile sticks out more than the spicy,” they wrote.
Another Redditor said the sauce is commonly used on fried chicken and others offered even more meal ideas, including using it as a base for dumplings, chicken marinade, and mixed with Kewpie mayo for a unique turkey burger spread.
So, next time you head to Trader Joe’s, be sure to grab a bottle of Korean Style Yangnyeom Sauce and see for yourself what the hype is about. And don’t forget to browse our favorite March finds under $5 for some extra meal inspiration before you head out the door.
