There’s nothing like a meal shortcut that saves time without sacrificing flavor. We know that Costco’s beloved rotisserie chicken, for example, shaves off hours in the kitchen and provides plenty of flavorful, juicy meat to use in wraps and casseroles. Similarly, canned biscuits offer a convenient way to top pot pie, assemble speedy breakfast sandwiches, and make peach cobbler a breeze.

Recently, we noticed Costco fans discussing an often overlooked shortcut: uncooked flour tortillas. We know what you’re thinking—why use uncooked tortillas when you can just grab the ready-to-eat alternative? The flavor, of course. These cook up in just minutes, and while you might not think of tortillas as much more than a vehicle for your tasty filling ideas, this product proves that they are star ingredient-worthy.

These Versatile Tortilla Fresca Uncooked Flour Tortillas Taste Homemade

Costco/Allrecipes

Tortilla Fresca Uncooked Flour Tortillas are the meal upgrade you didn’t know you needed. These organic tortillas are made from straightforward ingredients: wheat flour, water, canola oil, salt, and sugar–essentially, what you’d expect from a homemade tortilla recipe.

Shelf-stable tortillas are pre-cooked and ready-to-eat right from the package. (Though, we highly recommend warming them for the best texture and taste.) Uncooked tortillas, however, are simply pressed out into rounds, packaged and refrigerated for sale. Don’t worry–they won’t add a lot of time to dinner prep, either. Frying takes just 30 seconds per side and the result is a soft, fluffy texture and homemade taste. You can save even more time if you have an electric griddle that fits multiple at once.

"These make you realize that a tortilla can be a flavor component to a dish."

In a subreddit focused on Blackstone recipes, many shared their love for the refrigerated find. One person was surprised how much flavor the simple switch added. “These make you realize that a tortilla can be a flavor component to a dish,” the user said. Another chimed in with more positive words and a creative idea. “You can’t beat these! Closest thing to homemade you’ll find. Sometimes I use a circular cut out and make three minis out of each one for street style tacos,” they wrote.

In a separate Reddit thread, Costco shoppers shared even more genius ways to use the ready-to-cook tortillas. “Of course [they are] great for tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, but the dough is essentially like a rough puff pastry, so you can apply them as such a hack. Empanadas, homemade Pop-Tarts, garlic naan, pizza puffs…you name it,” said the user.

As if you needed any more convincing, uncooked tortillas freeze well, so there’s no concern your bulk-sized package will go to waste. Just don’t forget to separate each tortilla with parchment paper before transferring them to a freeze-safe storage bag, otherwise they will stick together.

No Costco near you? You can find other brands of raw tortillas in the refrigerated dairy section at most grocery stores. And be sure to check out our list of tasty ways to use tortillas for even more inspiration.
