Not only do we deliver breakthrough medications, but you also can count on us to develop creative solutions to support communities through philanthropy and volunteerismWe are seeking a highly motivated laboratory-based scientist with a strong background in behavioural pharmacology to join the Lilly Pain Drug Discovery team.  The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker, experienced in animal handling, dosing, animal surgery and demonstrated expertise in behavioural pharmacology. The candidate will be an integral part of multiple teams focused on developing novel medicines across broad pain disorders. Therefore, the ability to interact collaboratively with scientists with diverse expertise is a prerequisite for this role.  Responsibilities:The primary responsibilities of the candidate will be to support multiple in vivo animal studies in the Pain Drug Discovery group.Teamwork:Demonstrates exceptional ability to work with fellow lab/team members in order to schedule, coordinate, and execute high-quality in vivo studiesDisplays problem-solving skills and the knowledge of inter- and intra-departmental roles and responsibilities for coordination of work activitiesCommunication/Flexibility:Communicates with senior pharmacologist and other lab/team members regarding study activity, scheduling, and/or findingsDisplays innovative skills to accommodate various study designsLive-Phase Skills:Design and conduct of rodent (mouse and rat) in vivo pharmacology studiesPlanning the study in collaboration with the senior pharmacologistRandomizing, blinding, formulating, dosing of test compounds to study animals (PO, SC, IM, IV, IP)Collecting behavioral data of various modalities (manual observation and automated)Accurately documenting clinical observations, dosing times, dosing volume, bleeding times, body weights, food consumption and unscheduled eventsCollecting fluid and tissue samples (plasma, CSF, other tissues) at study termination and for larger studies conducting by other scientistsProcessing, labeling, and delivering samples for analysis internally and externallyAnalyzing data, graphically representing data and statistically analyzing dataRecording data in notebook, presenting in laboratory/project meetingsSurgical Skills:Demonstrates aseptic proceduresPrepares animals for surgery, monitors animals for pain during and post-surgery and administers proper anestheticConducts various surgical models, including nerve ligationNecropsy Skills:Demonstrates command of rodent dissection and prosectionCoordinates all preparations for the conduct of necropsies and demonstrates proficient dissection techniquesDelivers high-quality tissue samplesCompliance:Ensures full compliance with all Lilly regulations, including understanding and following all Animal Care and Use protocolsBasic Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field with relevant animal handling/dosing experience.Demonstrated proficiency in dosing and handling mice and rats.Skilled in sample collection (plasma, CSF, tissue dissection) and sample preparation.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentFlexibility and adaptability to a changing work environment with changing priorities.Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills.Additional Skills/Preferences:5+ years industry experienceSkilled in small animal surgical techniques.Experience conducting pain-related behavioral pharmacology studies in mice and/or rats.Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to document experiments clearly and according to Good Research Practice principles.Interest / aptitude in Machine Learning  Eli Lilly and Company, Lilly USA, LLC and our wholly owned subsidiaries (collectively “Lilly”) are committed to help individuals with disabilities to participate in the workforce and ensure equal opportunity to compete for jobs.
