On the Clinical Design Medicines Development (MD) IDS team, we work as one team partnering with Medicines Development and the Clinical Design Hub delivering cost-effective science through the development of novel and innovative clinical trial designs and technology solutions. Our business outcomes are focused on speeding drug development and providing the best experience for providers and patients. We have a critical need for an Emerging Technology Product Operations Engineer.
Purpose and Responsibilities:
As the emerging technology product operations engineer, you will work with outstanding and passionate team members across Clinical Design, Operations, Results, and Development to support novel capabilities being applied to clinical trials. As the role of clinical technology evolves to now include remote activity management, investigational software, digital endpoints, and novel measurement tools, you will be critical to ensuring the varied solutions continue to support our patients and providers. You will work alongside quality and regulatory teams to identify and mitigate risks as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in clinical development to bring our innovations to patients. A successful candidate for the role will have a strong technical curiosity for supporting delightful patient and site experiences in the clinical research setting with our next-generation of medicines. Initial assignments include technical support for current decentralized clinical trial solutions and clinical trial teams, bringing an automation first approach to solution development, and serving as a core team member for new capabilities development in clinical research. Responsibilities include:Service Management and Operations (30%)Execute and incorporate ITIL best practices to deliver the end-to-end IDS service at a level that supports the business need and requirements.Collect and analyze relevant information to resolve incidents, problem tickets, and change requests (CRs) within committed service levels.Lead hands-on technical troubleshooting, addressing priority issues and solution changes managing software-as-a-service solution providers and vendors where applicable.Engage in continuous improvement and partner on quality activities including audits and periodic reviews.Ensure global privacy and regulatory GxP compliance collaborating with privacy team, quality team and regulators for solutions supporting clinical trials including validation documentation.Contribute to the successful plan and execution of the deployment of project or system changes, which includes support for training, business adoption, implementation, and stabilization activities.Technologist and DevOps Engineer (30%)Serve as a core team member and technologist for new capabilities development.Design, code, test, and deliver software to automate manual operational work (i.e., “toil”).  Assist in modifying existing code (i.e. Python, Node.js) and/or AWS services (Lambda, Glue, etc.) to resolve incidents and enable new features.Evaluate features/enhancements through technical impact analysis and estimated business value to influence decision making.Ensure system testing methods are appropriate, coordinated, and comprehensive to decrease the probability of unexpected system issues.  Assist with system testing as needed. Apply knowledge to ensure consistency and accuracy in the use of tools and processes supporting devops automation, requirements management, code management, change management, validation, testing, and quality practices governing key work.Business Relationship Management (25%)Develop in-depth business process knowledge and foster strong relationships with business partners and clinical trial teams.Understand needs from a patient and provider experience perspective to inform solutions.Partner with clinical trial team colleagues to ensure business critical trial needs are met with priority.Proactively manage expectations and drive commitments in a fast-moving, agile environment.Personal Development and Projects (15%)You will have the opportunity to invest 15% of your time in personal development and/or a personal project of your choice (e.g. Clinical Development Special Project, Clinical Design Special Project, Usability Research, Limiting Bias for Wearable Devices Research.)
Basic Requirements:BA/BS degree in a technical fieldITIL v4 Foundations certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months
Additional Skills/Preferences:Certified Scrum Master or relevant experience working on a scrum teamExperience building, developing, and supporting software solutions through the entire SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle)Experience with Software Quality Assurance methods and techniques in a GXP environmentContinuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) experienceAutomated testing experienceAWS, Azure or other cloud-based experience and certificationsExperience with tools such as GitHub, Jira, and Sauce Labs suiteExperience with programming and scripting languages (e.g. Java, C#, C++, Python, Bash, PowerShell).Comfortable working on projects in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity and changeGreat teammate and creative problem solver with strong communication abilitiesAbility to proactively address resiliency, monitoring, and back-up processes through automated methodsExperience with clinical trial business processesHighly adaptable to changing circumstances and interest in continuously learning new skills and technologies
