The Delivery, Device and Connected Solutions (DDCS) organization leverages alliances in design and manufacturing to rapidly convert proprietary concepts into products that meet the users’ needs and intended uses. DDCS is seeking an Engineering Advisor – Test Methods to support the design, development, and maturity of robust testing systems and methods for drug delivery devices. Test Methods, part of the DDCS Mechanical Engineering organization, plays a key role in enabling delivery of Eli Lilly and Company’s expanding therapeutic portfolio.

Responsibilities:Leadership, Business Administration, and Resource Planning:Apply technical expertise and utilize the latest engineering tools/technologies to ensure overall technical soundness and compliance status of the testing programs, methods, and systems in DDCSChampion the continuous development of laboratory testing capabilities to support current and next generation productsLead, mentor, and coach a team of test method engineers (3–5 direct reports). Ensure the technical development and professional growth of talent within the organizationDrive continuous improvement of processes and procedures related to test systems and methodsEnsure direct reports are following the appropriate quality, HSE, and other corporate standards, policies, and procedures Delivery System Commercialization and Portfolio Delivery:Design, develop, and mature test systems (hardware and/or software) used to evaluate drug delivery device functionality and performance (mechanical and electromechanical)Design and develop robust test method packages and ensure methods are characterized in accordance with sound statistical principlesActively participate in and advocate on behalf of Test Methods and Mechanical Engineering in project meetings, design reviews, risk assessments, and root cause analysesAlliances and External ActivitiesSpeak at external conferences and symposia as opportunities present themselvesPublish results in peer-reviewed journals when appropriateEffectively partner with colleagues across DDCS, across organizations (manufacturing, IT, etc.), and with suppliers and development partners. Provide in-depth technical advice and guidance beyond immediate department.
Basic Requirements:Ph.D. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or Biomedical) with 1+ years of relevant experienceMS candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience will also be considered Minimum 2+ years experience leading teams and/or cross-functional projects
Additional Skills/Preferences:Previous mechanical and/or electromechanical testing experience or leading successful lab operationsExpertise in coding and scripting required to create and deploy test systems and methods (LabVIEW, common programming languages, etc.)Understanding of finite element analysis and the mechanics of solid bodies, and the ability to translate such analyses into meaningful testing strategiesSuccessful demonstration of root cause analysis and the traceability of failures to the system, subsystem, and component levelPrior experience with drug delivery systems (e.g. cartridges, prefilled syringes, combination product delivery devices, and medical devices) and design control processesAbility to take ownership of project work and complete work according to project timelinesOutstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively in an interdisciplinary environmentStrong written communication skills, including technical report writing
